Awkwardness is everywhere, inescapable. Awkwardness dominates entertainment to such an extent that it's becoming increasingly difficult to remember laughing at anything other than cringe-inducing scenes of social discomfort.
- Goes on to analyze The Office and Curb Your Enthusiasm, which are kind of obvious examples of his thesis (Also the films of Judd Apatow but I don't know those that well).
the utopia of awkwardness is where we already are. Rather than an ideal order that must be established, it is a strangely inverted kind of utopia that all of our social orders try and fail to escape. (p87)
